Forest Department Poonch Launches Door-to-Door Awareness Campaign In Upper Uchhad Panchayat to Prevent Forest Fires and Promote Conservation Initiative Led DFO Naveed Mughal Receives Strong Community Support

Poonch, April 25, 2025:On the direction of Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Poonch, Mr. Naveed Mughal, the Forest Department conducted an intensive door-to-door awareness campaign in Panchayat Upper Uchhad, falling under the jurisdiction of Mendhar Forest Range. The initiative, which focused on forest fire prevention, was carried out under the close supervision of Range Officer Mendhar, Mr. Nahiem Naik, and was met with overwhelming support and appreciation from the local community.During the campaign, Forest Department officials engaged directly with households, educating them on the dangers of forest fires, precautionary measures, and the vital role of public cooperation in protecting forest resources. Emphasis was placed on the theme “Prevention is Better than Cure”, underlining the importance of proactive action in curbing the ever-growing threat of wildfires, especially during the dry summer months.Forest officers explained the causes and devastating consequences of forest fires, which not only destroy precious flora and fauna but also contribute to environmental degradation, soil erosion, and climate imbalance. The locals were made aware of practical steps such as:Avoiding burning of crop residue or dry grass near forest areas.Promptly informing the forest authorities in case of any smoke or fire sightings.Keeping the surrounding areas clean and free of inflammable waste.The department also highlighted the economic, ecological, and cultural importance of forests, describing them as “Green Gold”. Forests are not only a source of livelihood for many but also crucial for maintaining air quality, water cycles, and biodiversity.The awareness campaign is part of a larger strategy adopted the Forest Department to involve the public in safeguarding forests and promoting sustainable environmental practices. DFO Naveed Mughal has directed all range officers to scale up such initiatives across the district, ensuring community-led forest conservation becomes a widespread movement.Local residents expressed their gratitude and support for the Forest Department’s efforts, acknowledging that such awareness drives are the need of the hour.The Forest Department reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the region’s natural heritage and urged citizens to act as guardians of the green cover, ensuring a safe and sustainable future for generations to come.
