Mendhar, May 24, 2025 – Prominent social activist Tanveer Iqbal Qureshi has raised serious concerns over the delay in the replacement of dangerously damaged and leaning electric poles in Pyt Narol Block Mendhar, expressing deep frustration at the alleged inaction of the concerned department.

“Despite repeated public outcries and local complaints, the department has remained a mute spectator, ignoring the urgent need to replace the damaged poles posing a direct threat to the lives of residents,” Qureshi said. “The situation is not only alarming but also a blatant example of administrative negligence.”

He added that if any unforeseen incident or loss of life occurs due to the collapse of these poles, the responsibility will lie squarely on the shoulders of the concerned authorities who have failed to act in time.

Qureshi pointed out that several areas within Pyt Narol are dotted with electric poles that are either broken, severely tilted, or supported makeshift measures — making them vulnerable to collapse, especially during rain or strong winds. The absence of preventive maintenance and proactive planning has made the local population extremely vulnerable.

“This is not just about infrastructure; it’s about human lives. We cannot wait for a tragedy to strike before waking up. The department must be held accountable for its failure to act,” he stated.

He further urged the District Administration and higher authorities to take immediate cognizance of the matter and direct the concerned department to initiate the replacement of poles on a war footing. He emphasized that public safety should be the top priority, not bureaucratic delay.

Tanveer Iqbal Qureshi called on civil society, local representatives, and media to amplify this issue so that pressure mounts on the administration to fulfill its duties. “Let us not wait for a mishap to issue condolence messages. Prevention is better than cure.”
