MENDHAR, May 22, 2025:Prominent social activist and legal voice Advocate Farid Chaudhry today issued a strong statement urging the Tehsil and District Administration to play their clear and decisive roles in ensuring that the of the victims of border shelling and other affected families are fully protected and respected.
While talking to The Uphoder, Advocate Farid Chaudhry conveyed his serious concern over the treatment and neglect faced many victims, stating that it was the constitutional and moral responsibility of the administration to rise above token gestures and deliver real, lasting solutions to the people’s suffering.
“If anyone insults or mistreats the victims or their families, we will not tolerate it under any circumstances. The administration must take such issues seriously and protect the dignity of every affected citizen,” said Advocate Farid Chaudhry with firmness.
While acknowledging and appreciating the recent government job announcements for the families of the shelling victims, Chaudhry also issued a sharp critique of the broader administrative approach, stating that the UT government has largely failed to address the core issues faced the public and instead has reduced governance to mere photo opportunities and superficial visits.
“Announcing compensation or jobs is not enough. What about the day-to-day suffering of the people in border areas? What about infrastructure, health, education, and security? These aren’t problems that can be solved with cameras and brief speeches,” he said.
Advocate Chaudhry called on the Deputy Commissioner, Tehsildar, and other senior officials to engage directly and transparently with the victims and their communities, not just in times of media spotlight, but through sustained efforts and policy measures that prioritize human dignity and public welfare.
He stressed the need for:
- Immediate follow-up on relief and rehabilitation packages.
- Transparent implementation of announced schemes and job placements.
- Protection of the and voices of victims, ensuring no one is silenced or shamed for seeking justice.
- Establishment of grievance redressal mechanisms at the village and tehsil level.
- Ending the culture of photo-centric governance and replacing it with ground-level accountability.
“We will continue to fight through every legal and democratic channel to ensure that the voices of the border residents are not lost in the noise of ceremonies and political PR,” he concluded.
The press conference saw the presence of local residents, members of civil society, youth leaders, and members of the bar association, many of whom echoed Farid Chaudhry’s concerns.
The message was loud and clear — the people are demanding dignity, not charity; action, not optics.
