Mendhar,19 May 2025-In a remarkable display of dedication, empathy, and unwavering commitment to national service, the Romeo Force of the Indian Army has initiated a large-scale door-to-door humanitarian relief operation in the border villages of Mendhar sector, Poonch district. The move comes in the aftermath of recent ceasefire violations and cross-border shelling that disrupted civilian life and left several families in dire need of aid and reassurance.
The Indian Army, known for its valor and professionalism in guarding the nation’s borders, once again demonstrated its compassionate side mobilizing both medical and logistical support for the affected population. Troops of Romeo Force braved rough terrain, unpredictable weather, and the ever-present threat of further hostilities to reach remote and vulnerable communities located perilously close to the Line of Control (LoC). This outreach mission, coordinated with local civil administration, includes distribution of food supplies, essential medicines, health checkups, and psychological support for traumatized residents—many of whom had to take shelter for days fearing shelling. Army medical teams accompanied the soldiers, ensuring that people with injuries or health issues—especially the elderly, women, and children—received immediate care.
Each household was personally visited uniformed personnel who not only provided supplies but also listened to the concerns and fears of residents, offering assurance of continued protection and support. The compassion and patience shown the troops were deeply appreciated the local populace, many of whom recounted stories of courage and camaraderie between villagers and soldiers. “I lost most of my belongings when a mortar shell hit our home,” said Bashir Ahmed, a resident of a border hamlet in Mendhar. “But seeing the Army come to our door with medicine and food gave us the strength to carry on. They are not just soldiers—they are our protectors in every sense.”
Another villager, Naseem Akhter, expressed her gratitude for the Army’s presence. “The sound of firing still haunts our children. But when the Army visited us, they brought not just relief but hope. Their presence made us feel safe again.” Speaking about the initiative, a senior Army official said, “The Romeo Force remains committed to its dual mission: securing the border and supporting our fellow citizens in every possible way. We understand that conflict affects more than just military positions—it impacts homes, families, and futures. Our efforts are aimed at healing as much as protecting.” This operation is a continuation of the Indian Army’s long-standing tradition of civic action in conflict-affected regions. In the past too, the Army has stepped in with educational support, medical camps, infrastructure assistance, and emergency rescue operations across Jammu & Kashmir. The relief effort is not a one-time event but part of an ongoing commitment to ensure that civilians living in border regions are not left behind or ignored during times of crisis. The Romeo Force has set up temporary medical camps and is also coordinating with local health departments to monitor the well-being of shelling victims over the coming weeks.
Additionally, the Army has reiterated its readiness to provide further assistance as required, including mental health counseling, restoration of damaged infrastructure, and logistical support for displaced families. In these challenging times, the Indian Army continues to exemplify its motto of “Service Before Self”—not only safeguarding the territorial integrity of the nation but standing firmly with the people in their hour of need. Through the compassionate and courageous actions of Romeo Force, a message of unity, resilience, and national solidarity echoes across the hills of Mendhar and the valleys of Poonch
